Convair Office Building
Schiphol 1996-2000

Gross floor surface offices ca. 5.810 m2
Commissioned by Schiphol Real Estate and KLM Facility Services

Around the Amsterdam airport Schiphol there is a need for office and trade buildings. A suitable place for these commercial activities is the airport’s original location, now called Schiphol-Oost. The remaining traffic control tower was moved and refurbished into a restaurant that serves a series of office buildings named after classic airplanes.

Convair Building was the pilot project for the development. Two rectangular office wings are connected by a five storey high lobby in which a glass elevator tower and a hanging staircase with gangways link all floors. Surveyable and transparent to assist orientation. The curtain wall facing south-west is equipped with a bowing sun screen of metal panels.
