Elementary School Vught
A beautiful environment for a new school building, located in a green area with lots of free space around. In such a place you would like your children to be in school. However, a school for more than 700 students, 30 classrooms and 3 gyms requires a large building. The ambition was to ensure that the building is enjoyable and inviting, so everyone can find his own place and feels at home, but at the same time, it should be a building that forms a coherency to provide an optimal environment for teamwork.
This project has a clear floor plan that consists of four connected components. They seamlessly meet the requirements of the zoning plan, but also form a contemporary translation of the three sheds of the Frederik Hendrik barracks that were originally located at the site. The building volumes are conceived as 'homes', in which all educational sections have their own place, atmosphere, and experience. The glass facades offer a wide view of the green surroundings. The large roofs provide a sheltered entrance area that functions as a spacious veranda.
