Constellation Building
Around the Amsterdam airport Schiphol was a need for office and trade buildings. A suitable place for these commercial activities is the airport’s original location, now called Schiphol-Oost. The remaining traffic control tower was moved and refurbished into a restaurant that serves a series of office buildings named after classic airplanes.
Constellation Building is situated at the head of the series in a bend of the road. The building consists of two wings that, inspired by the airplane that gave the building its name, are curved in section. The eastern part bends with the road, the west wing is straight and terraced. The glass lobby, facing north in this case, can do without protection from the sun.
