Sports Medical Centre Olympiaplein
In the southern part of Amsterdam Olympiaplein, was established as an athletic training field for the 1928 Olympics. After the Games the field became a neighbourhood sports facility with some modest sheds for a soccer club and the Parks Department in the middle.
The latter building has been replaced by a pavilion for sports revalidation and physiotherapy, more in line with the present use of the grounds. The Netherlands Olympic Committee has a recruiting and selection office here, thus keeping the Olympic origins alive.
In addition, the two-storied building accommodates consultation, treatment and exercise rooms, guaranteeing usage from early morning till late at night. In the meantime, renovation of the fields has been completed, providing Amsterdam with a well-deserved sport facility, not far from the recently restored Olympic Stadium, and in the heart of the Stadionbuurt, the neighbourhood that was named after it.
